Koh Samui

a few apologies to start with....

1) lack of pics - its difficult to upload photos to the blog without using our laptop, and all my posting so far has been done at internet cafes. I do have some photos picked out to post as soon as I can... so in the meantime imagine us all tanned, slim and gorgeous :-)

2) access via cellphone. The global roaming I set up before we left doesn't appear to work in Thailand, I have since bought a Thai sim card but of course didn't bring the number with me tonight... I will update this with our Thai mob number asap. Apparantly it only costs 20c to txt us here (Vodafone).. this message especially for all the tight wads who haven't answered my txts!!!! :-)

Now back to the subject...

We've just spent 5 nights in Koh Samui and found it an island of extremes, one that seems to cater for every one and every taste.

The first few nights were spent at Chaweng beach in a dubious place called 'Relax Resort' (should've guessed before we even booked...) and we were awoken at 2.00 am by questionable sounds coming from the room next door, accompanied by slapping noises... even Brannan commented that it was 'sickening', needless to say I was quite happy to let the children play noisely outside at breakfast time. It was a dark and dingey guest house and although we still haven't encountered any spiders to speak of, it doesn't stop me looking for them constantly (I want to see them before they see me!!) All the restaurants seemed to offer only European food... I will admit to giving in to Burger King our first night here, and all the markets only selling copy designer gear.

We then moved onto a nice bungalow at a different beach (Lamai) and had completely different type of holiday, quiet, relaxed, glorious pool and local food and people.

We hired motor scooters yesterday and it was wonderful to have some independence to explore the island. We all went helmetless (sorry Mum)... something I wouldn't dream of back home, but when you see people riding three to a scooter and carrying a pot of rice it doesn't seem like such a crime. The kids loved it, and now I worry that I've turned Petra into a bikie chick!

Next stop is Malayisa we need some time there to organise the Vietnamese part of our adventure. We've chosen to go for a long haul and cheap trip, approx 126USD for all four of us to bus to Kuala Lumpar. Apparantly its a 29 hr journey, so we've stocked up on amusements for the kids and snacks, we could fly I suppose.. but where's the fun it that and what a boring post that would be :-)
