Kuala Lumpar (Round One)

We're having a great time in KL.

The big trip down took longer than expected to recover from and we slept for the biggest part of the next two days.. luckily Mark had the foresight to book us into the Park Royal, so we lived (or slept) like kings.

What a reality check on the third morning when we had to move around the corner back to budget lodgings. Although the kids don't really notice the difference (except the lack of a swimming pool) I'm still in mourning :-)

Well KL.... we were like parched travellers who had just discovered an oasis. This place is abuzz, shops, shops and more SHOPS. Too bad we have no room for purchases in our luggage - although we have managed to end up at least once a day in some shopping plaza or another.

Mark got us all up the amazing Petronas Twin Towers, his one requirement of our whole trip. Brannan will tell you that the towers are each 330 times taller than him. Just getting tickets to go up the towers was a feat in itself, Mark and Brannan had to line up early one morning as the tickets are only issued daily and usually sell out within an hour or so. They also bumped into a NZ friend at the ticket office. Selwyn, I'm so sorry I missed seeing you, I promise never to sleep in again on our whole trip!!!

There is so much to do here, and we have been very taken by the Islamic architecture. We have visited a Butterfly Park, seen a cultural show and been to the movies twice (just over 10NZD for all four of us)

The weather is slightly cooler than Thailand thanks to the frequent thunder and lightening storms. The locals must be very in tune with the storms. We were at a wonderful park the other afternoon and unable to understand why we were the only ones there... then there was one drop, then another and then the skies opened. We got drenched in the few hundred metres we had to run to (you guessed it) another shopping plaza!!

Our Vietnamese visas are now in progress. Petra managed to charm the officials at the Embassy, the grumpy male clerks who served us, invited her behind the glass and were all smiles, wanted cuddles and were happy to pose for photos with her... If only Mark, Bran and I were cute and blonde too!!

We're moving on again tomorrow, going to go back up to Penang... even if it does take 6 hours to go 320 kms... the beaches are beckoning and I need some space from the shops :-)

Take care everyone
